A Beginner’s Guide to Polyurethane-Coated Breast Implants with impartial, expert information and advice.

Polyurethane-Coated Breast Implants are silicone gel filled implants with a silicone elastomer shell. The shell is coated with a Polyurethane foam which helps to avoid capsular contraction. Capsular contraction is the phenomenon whereby the body forms a capsule of scar tissue around the implant. The scar tissue then begins to shrink, which causes the implant to squeeze, change shape and harden. Polyurethane-coated breast enhancement implants have been around since the 1970's. Their use was briefly suspended in the UK in the 1990's amidst fears of the Polyurethane coating breaking down in the body. However, independent testing and reviews conducted found the rist to be minimal and in 2005, one manufacturer re-introduced the Polyurethane-coated breast implants back into the UK market.

The manufacturer of Polyurethane-coated breast implants available in the UK is Polytech Silimed Europe GmbH. You can find detailed information of their breast implant products here.
